Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns and bridges are typically fixed solutions used to repair damaged teeth or improve the appearance of teeth. Unlike dentures, which can be removed, dental crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants. Only a dentist can remove a crown or bridge.

Crowns

A crown can be used to improve the appearance, shape or alignment of a tooth. A crown, typically made of either porcelain or ceramic, entirely covers or “caps” a damaged tooth and it can also be placed over an implant to give the appearance of a tooth-like shape and structure.

Dental crowns are often recommended to:

Bridges

A dentist may recommend a bridge to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge is created by using two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap and filling in the space between with a false tooth/teeth. The two anchor teeth are called abutment teeth. Bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants that are used to anchor the bridge. Bridges supported by actual teeth are ideal instead of an implant when the supporting teeth are in need of a crown.

Why would I need a dental crown?
